Lung cancer is one of the deadliest cancers affecting both men and women worldwide. Finding it early through lung cancer screenings is critical like it was for Aaron Keenan, husband and father of two young sons. Patients typically don’t have symptoms during the early stages of lung cancer. That is why screening for lung cancer is so important. Speak with your doctor if you are 50 to 80 years of age, are a current smoker or have quit smoking in the past 15 years, and have at least a 20 pack-year smoking history. Getting screened for lung cancer may just be the first step. If you need additional care, Hawaii Pacific Health is here for you with a team of dedicated experts, innovative care options and personalized treatment plans. Nov. 10-16 is National Nurse Practitioner Week (NP Week), and this year, nurse practitioners are being recognized nationwide as providers at the heart of health care. We are truly grateful for our NPs who work in our medical centers and clinics systemwide. Their passion for healing shines through in everything they do, and their kindness and empathy make a profound difference in the lives of our patients and their families. NPs are a tremendous support in all care settings, combining their clinical expertise with health management knowledge to provide comprehensive care for our patients. They spend time understanding their patients' lives, circumstances, and challenges, ensuring that the care they provide is not just effective but also deeply personal and respectful of individual needs. To all of our NPs systemwide, Happy Nurse Practitioner Week!

Join us in celebrating Genetic Counselor Awareness Day, which is recognized nationwide on the second Thursday of November! Kyira, Sarah and Gabrielle are certified genetic counselors with the Fetal Diagnostic Center at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, and they are integral members of our health care team. With their specialized education and training in both medical genetics and counseling, they work closely with patients and families to guide them in understanding genetic conditions, interpreting test results and making informed decisions about their health care. Each year, Genetic Counselor Awareness Day is celebrated to commend these health care providers who help people understand their genetic risk for a variety of diseases and get genetic testing if necessary.
