In 1994, Dr. Lori Arviso Alvord made history as the first Navajo woman to become board certified in surgery. But when she began work on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico, she found “although I was a good surgeon, I was not always a good healer.” Today, Dr. Alvord’s care combines modern medicine and traditional Navajo healing. Our Englewood Park center recently held a no baking cooking class. Patients learned about healthy eating while making delicious overnight oats. They were able to take home the treat to eat for breakfast the next day. Providing health education is an important part of helping our patients stay healthier for longer. Healthy eating doesn't have to be boring and sometimes you don't even need to turn on the stove!
