If you are constructing a home in Bend, consider adding an ADU to the project. Not only does an ADU add value to your new home, but renting it long-term to a local worker can help ease the burden of the current housing crisis we're facing in Bend. You can learn how to do this, including options for financing the entire project, by clicking the link and viewing our ADU Guide powered by Simplicity on our website. We're here to help, so if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out so we can connect you with local experts.

The housing crisis in Bend impacts not only the people struggling to afford to live here but also our local business community and the customers it serves. Unaffordable housing makes it harder to maintain a workforce. It increases the cost of doing business, which is ultimately passed on to you, the customer, as higher costs for products and services—even food and beverages. It also creates longer waits for coffee, HVAC service, doctor's appointments, and much more. Get involved. In the three years we've been at this workforce housing initiative, we have come a long way. If you aren't aware of what happened, check out our website's workforce housing section. This is also where you can sign up to stay abreast of new developments. We are all in this together.

Now that elections are finished, we know change is on the horizon. Central Oregon businesses are also thinking about how politics and other issues will affect the workforce and their industries. During the past six months, the Bend Chamber conducted a “three-horizon” survey of more than 160 business leaders in the Bend area. The survey asked what is influencing business today, what assumptions they are predicting for 10 years out, and how they will track progress between now and then. Businesses are constantly monitoring the landscape and watch for indicators of changes to come. More of the Chamber survey will be highlighted at the Bend Chamber annual Impact Conference Nov. 20 with experts from across the country sharing insights to help local businesses prepare for the future.
