More than 170 women made it a self-care Sunday on Nov. 17 for the 3rd annual "Breathe, Balance, Brunch: Women’s Wellness Retreat," presented by Sonora Quest Laboratories/ Laboratory Sciences of Arizona and held at Banner Sports Medicine Scottsdale! Guests enjoyed a super-food brunch while a DJ played pop hits, followed by rotating 30-minute sessions of seated yoga, sound bowl healing therapy, guided meditation, golf simulation, guest speakers on various health topics, and exhibit tables where they learned more about skin cancer prevention, physical therapy and more. Proceeds from the day benefit Women Investing in Science & Health (WISH). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved an infusion-based Parkinson’s disease treatment shown to increase the time when symptoms are well controlled, known as “on” time, based on research from a clinical trial that took place at Banner Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City. Sara Dhanani, MD, recently discussed the significance of this breakthrough on Phoenix NPR affiliate KJZZ. While FDA approval has been granted, it will take several months for this infusion-based treatment to be widely available and covered by insurance.
