Did you know that the Academy's DEIB Committee held its first annual community service day at Academy 2024 Indianapolis? The committee, in partnership with VSP Mobile clinics, provided essential eye exams to families at an Indianapolis shelter for families experiencing homelessness. Over 50 people, children, and adults, received eye care, with more than 40 people receiving prescription glasses. The event not only improved the vision of so many in the local community but also exemplified the collaborative spirit of the optometric profession, making a lasting impact on those in need. EssilorLuxottica will contribute $300,000 to the American Academy of Optometry Foundation's OD/PhD Scholarship Program, which encourages ODs to pursue a PhD in a vision science field such as Physiological Optics, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health or Neuroscience.
