Your team member is overwhelmed with work-life balance. How can you help them find equilibrium?
-
Prioritize tasks effectively:Encourage your team member to list out their tasks and set realistic deadlines. This approach helps them avoid burnout by focusing on what's truly important.### *Establish firm boundaries:Suggest they clearly separate work and personal time to ensure they get adequate rest. This practice promotes a healthier work-life balance by preventing work from encroaching on personal life.

The question we need to be asking here is how is the organization supporting all workers so they feel more balanced in life. Work and life shouldn't be equal. Life should take up way more space. How is the organization implementing procedures and changing operations to prioritize employee wellbeing without sacrificing revenue? Because that is possible but that shouldn't be on the employee to figure out or feel burdened by.

So often we put the burden on the team member to solve a situation. While it's possible this person might be taking too much on or struggling with prioritization, so often we are asking a lot of people. If you see people are burning out or struggling with workload, get really honest as a company with what you are asking people to do and what support you are providing them. No amount of self-care will protect you from a toxic workplace.

I have had a team member who visibly seemed overwhelmed with work-life balance. I first inquired about what specifically was causing them stress, then discussed strategies like time management techniques, setting boundaries, and task delegation. I also encouraged them to take breaks, practice self-care, and communicate openly with their manager about their workload. I supportively helped my colleague regain their balance and improve their well-being with words of encouragement and practical solutions.

Feel free to ask if they need any of your assistance in doing/completing their tasks. Talk to them, if the stress is the reason of them being worked up. Help them manage their tasks- 1. Help them list out their to-dos and arrange them according to their priority. 2. Prepare to do list day-wise; weekly to dos can get overwhelming. 3. Arrangement of calendars is another important task. 4. Do not provide time-stamps for every job listed in to dos as it can get overwhelming and full of stress. 5. Give more hours of the job which is important and urgent rather than finishing small jobs first. Quality over quantity always. Take them out for lunch, tea break and talk anything else other than work to lighten their day :)
