Got this to play YARG (yet another rhythm game) on PC. I bought the Xbox one and it works awesome. Haven’t played rockband since RB3, and I missed it so much! Used guitars are like 200$ and half of the ones I’ve seen in my area are broken in some way. So I decided to pay less and try out a brand new Riffmaster.

While I played drums almost exclusively on RB, I’d swap out for guitar when someone else wanted to give drums a whirl. This plays almost exactly how I remember the RB guitars playing. It has pretty quiet buttons and strum bar, not loud and clicky like GH, which is a plus for me. The noisy clicks throw off my rhythm and it messes me up.

The only thing that I might complain about is the whammy bar seems oddly placed. I don’t remember it being a bother on my old RB2 guitar, but on this one, it kind of hits the side of my hand/wrist while strumming. It doesn’t really matter much, cause whammy doesn’t seem to work on YARG. Same with star power. I’ve shaken this thing like crazy, tilting it every which way I could, flung it like an unwelcome ex, and still no dice. But that’s more than likely just a YARG problem.

Otherwise, I can’t find a reason to dislike this thing. I was hesitant spending 130$ for a new plastic guitar, but I’m so glad I did. It’s bringing back such nostalgia!

I love that this is a return to guitar peripherals we loved back in the day. Feels like an upgrade from the PS2 ones, but not much better than the PS3/Xbox 360 era. This has one really cool function - the ability to fold it to save space. It's a great function that I haven't seen on others before. Also, using a USB dongle instead of it being Bluetooth is a disappointment. That just means it's no better than the old guitars, and takes up your one USB port on a PS5. Still though, greatful for a guitar peripherals meant for a ps5 instead of using older tech.

This GH controller is perfect. It connects to the PC through Bluetooth and if you are playing clone hero the setup is very simple with the PlayStation version. I have watched a few tutorials of the Xbox controller and it seems that their is a need for a 3rd party controller mapping software to allow the Xbox version to work with Clone Hero. But the Xbox version apparently is the only GH controller that works with Fortnite’s Guitar game. So there is that. I will most likely buy a Xbox version to play Fortnite’s GH clone. Again I love this thing. Super happy they made new GH controllers because it is hard to find good ones anymore.

mostly bought it for use on PC (clone hero specifically) and no matter my efforts what drivers, programs or plugins i try, it will not work. it works fine in fortnite festival even though the tilt to activate star power will not work on it. that also brings me to issues i don't like with the controller. the buttons are smooth and it is easy to loose track of your fingers or slide completely off the pressable buttons. there are slight little bumps on the red and blue but they are hardly even there and i can't feel them at all. i also don't prefer the rockband style of guitar in general, i would have rather it been a guitar hero style one but that is just personal preference.

it has some neat features like being foldable and having a control stick on the neck for navigating menus all, but outside of that i've found cheap knock off controllers that were better than the money i spent on this. i'd honestly consider one of those over this thing. and hell if you're spending this kind of money on a rhythm game controller you're probably better off getting one of those custom made or modded ones.

i wouldn't get this unless you're truly deadset on it or you just really like rockband style controllers. i didn't try this on a console, so if you plan to be playing on console you'll probably have less issues with compatibility than i did.

It doesn't work with festival, I thought both would be compatible with PC but they are not. This is ONLY a playstation guitar.

The overdrive is assigned to d pad which is hard to reach if you have small hands and easy to end up in a menu. The tilt requires you to practically spin the whole guitar to work, so you should expect to miss notes just trying to use it unless you can reach that d-pad or are particularly practiced already. Frustrating design!

The glossy finish is also a fingerprint magnet, why did they go with this choice 👀

Love the foldable design though, and that a joystick was added for navigating other parts of the game.

The Riffmaster guitar made by PDP is simply one of the best guitars I've ever owned. It feels sturdy even though it's lightweight, the frets are good (even though it's a pain to hit HOPO's) and the strum bar is excellent - fast alt strumming is so much easier now (I was playing songs with sections like this on RB4 - Black Magic, Heir Apparent etc) and I hardly broke my x4 multiplier when I have using GH/RB strats guitars in the past.

There are a couple of nitpicks of course - the whammy bar is springy and if you go to far down with it it can catch the pause button and if you're going for a FC it can mess you up, and also sometimes the strum bar doesn't register standard speed alt strums. The ability to choose between PS4 and PS5 is awesome, and the fact it's totally wireless (up to 40 hours on a single charge) is a welcome plus, saves having to scout for 2 AA batteries every time.

I think PDP have done a fab job with this but I think if they make more of these down the line maybe they should cure the original faults this one has even though there aren't many. Overall, a bloody amazing guitar and I'm having so much fun with it.
