One third of all drinking water withdrawn yearly is lost due to poor infrastructure! We need new ideas for our water networks, and that's where #AI comes in. 🤖 🇸🇪 Swedish water company VA SYD supplies drinking water to more than half a million customers in Malmö, Sweden. The company used to lose about a 10th of its water. Therefore, the company rolled out a leak finder, which is an AI technology that analyzes water flow data to detect leaks as small as 0.25 liters and can reduce water losses by up to 50% 💧 🇬🇧 In the UK, Yorkshire Water installed a blockage-predicting AI model. Trained on data from thousands of sensors in their water network, it detects blockages before it’s too late.

❄️ Winter is coming... for #AI? Or at least it was back in the 70s. They called it the first 'AI winter'. People were excited about #ArtificialIntelligence, but progress was slow, mostly stuck in universities. Still, some researchers kept going, believing in AI's potential. An interesting fact from this time: We started working with our partners on a system to answer questions using natural language, kind of like #ChatGPT‘s grandmother. With magnetic tape rolls, the tech was bulky back then, but it was a step forward in human-machine communication. 🤖
