🌱 At this month's Sustainable Chemicals Conference & Expo we had the chance to collect participants' perspectives on nature strategy awareness and implementation. 📊 Our booth's "nature wall" revealed that 30% of respondent's companies have a nature strategy and are already communicating about it. For the Quantis team of sustainable chamical experts on site — Philipp Meister, Mohamad Ghareeb, Kyle Orritt, PhD and Ancelin Coulon — there's clearly an appetite for companies to start addressing nature impacts even if it's not yet included their strategy. At the same time, with at least half of those working in sustainability without a nature strategy in place, it's urgent for companies to catch up. ➡️ Discover Quantis' approach for the chemicals industry: https://lnkd.in/dfvW39in

The latest #GlobalCommitment24 report published today by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and UN Environment Programme highlights six years of collective progress in tackling plastic waste and pollution. While significant strides have been made — like reducing virgin plastic use and increasing recycled content — much work remains to align with 2025 targets. At Quantis, we’re proud to have supported efforts to advance transparency and actionable insights in the fight against plastic pollution. Here are some key highlights from this year’s report: ✅ Signatories reduced virgin plastic packaging by the largest yearly amount since 2018. ✅ Recycling rates for certain packaging categories continue to rise. 📈 But with 80% of the market yet to act, bold action is still urgently needed. ➡️ Explore how the report sheds light on opportunities for accelerated business action and global policy collaboration: https://bit.ly/40S29nr #CircularEconomy #PlasticPollution

📹 When it comes to measuring emissions, are companies focusing on the right thing? 🌍 At Climate Week NYC, Quantis Global Leader Allon Zeitoun sat down with CO2 AI's Charlotte Degot to dig into this question. Allon's advice to companies: ✅ You have to know your "why": What are you measuring your emissions for? It shouldn't be for reporting alone, but to change operations through ecodesign, for example. ✅ Building a comprehensive database is complex but critical to start today. It's not easy and you'll need support. ➡️ Read Quantis' Carole Dubois' digitalization breakdown here: https://bit.ly/3ArBJyd #ClimateWeekNYC #Sustainability #ProductFootprint

🌍 COP16, a mixed bag of outcomes? 🌱 After nature’s biggest event of the year, a quick scan of the headlines would suggest COP16 didn't quite hit the mark. Here’s where the major conservation summit fell short: ❌ Biodiversity finance remains stalled: Only $163 million was pledged to the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund, far short of the $200 billion required and just 0.2% of the annual funding needed. ❌ National plans are lagging: Despite commitments, only 15% of countries that had committed to submitting a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan followed through. By the summit’s close, just 22% of countries had come up with new biodiversity plans. ❌ No plan was established for how progress on targets will be monitored. Despite these setbacks, COP16 showcased encouraging strides. While tremendous challenges remain, the commitment to protecting nature isn’t going anywhere — it’s growing stronger. In attendance numbers alone, COP16 drew more than double the delegates compared to COP15, along with heightened engagement from corporates.
Here are three takeaways to fuel companies’ momentum on the road to a nature-positive future:
✅ Corporate momentum is growing: The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) announcing that 500+ companies and financial institutions committed to TNFD-aligned risk management and financial reporting — an almost 60% surge since the start of 2024. Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) also made waves with its announcement of the first-ever corporate adoptions of science-based targets for freshwater and land. ✅ COP16 is being lauded as the most inclusive yet, with the establishment of the first-ever permanent body for Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLC). This will give IPCL unprecedented participation in decision-making within the UN biodiversity convention. ✅ The summit saw progress made in integrating climate and nature, with negotiators reaching an agreement on a text linking biodiversity loss and climate change — laying a vital foundation ahead of the COP29 climate conference later this month. ✅ Despite the delay in a financing agreement at COP16, the finance industry made its mark in other ways, with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and WWF announcing a partnership to mobilize early-stage funding for nature-based solutions, with the goal of developing projects to boost climate adaptation. With momentum building around the 30x30 target (conserving 30% of Earth’s ecosystems by 2030) and aligning biodiversity with climate action, we’re on the right path — but we can’t lose steam. The call is clear: Businesses must lead the nature charge. Only with strong private sector leadership will we secure a future where the planet — business — can thrive. ➡️ Here’s how to take action for nature: https://bit.ly/3Cmx9lb #COP16 #biodiversity
